Koulourakia are crispy and tender, orange-scented Greek Butter Cookies that are perfect with a cup of coffee or tea.




  1. Preheat oven to 350℉. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. Cream together butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes, in the bowl of an electric mixer using the paddle attachment.
  3. Add 2 eggs, orange juice, brandy, vanilla, and zest. Beat until well incorporated, scraping down sides as needed.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk flour and baking powder. Add flour mixture to butter mixture, a cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. Beat on medium speed, about 1 minute, until a dough forms.
  5. Break off a heaping tablespoon of dough and roll into a long rope-like shape, fold in half and twist. Place the cookies on prepared baking sheet.
  6. Once all of the cookies have been shaped, beat the egg in a small bowl and lightly brush on top of the cookies.
  7. Bake 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  8. Store cookies in an air tight container.
